Charles Right-Click-Saves

Charles caused some controversy in the Cardano community last week when he changed his Twitter and Facebook profile picture to a piece made by JAR, the artist behind JAR heads. People soon pointed out that he had not purchased the NFT and was using someone else's property. This prompted him to make a video on the topic of NFT intellectual property and raised some concerns over the lack of clarity of NFT rights. More on this topic in "Thor's Thoughts" (Premium Brew).

Some influential members of the Cardano NFT community chimed in, whether through a cordial discussions or memes.

Clay Nation Announces Clay Space

Clay Nation announced its upcoming dedicated Clay Nation marketplace last week. This will be one of the first major rollouts of their Clay hub. The platform will offer some additional features such as filtering by unbaked Clay Nation NFTs.

The announcement was accompanied by a Snoop Dogg tweet of their latest music video and a healthy increase in volume and floor price of the Clay Nation collection on the secondary market.

JPG Store Keeps Growing

JPG Store reached the impressive milestone of recording ₳400M in trading volume. They also gave a teaser of an upcoming redesign. Behind the scenes, there is talk of some major updates being released in Q1 for the #1 NFT marketplace on Cardano.

Even JPG.store's CEO Blake got in on the development action by adding a listing statistic on collection pages.

Raffles Everywhere

Raffles have become increasingly popular in the Cardano NFT community. One of the projects that have successfully incorporated this functionality into their ecosystem, Mutants, has seen a significant boost in activity and engagement.

Last week's highlight was perhaps Fahadouken's raffle of his Berry Sand, which ended up collecting over ₳80k in raffle ticket sales. Is this the new meta for large collectors to liquidate their most expensive assets in a bear market with limited wealthy buyers?

In addition to their popular raffle system, Mutants announced non-custodial staking coming to their platform in 2023. This will allow users to earn rewards via staking without sending their NFTs to a smart contract.

cNFTcon Ticket Sales Open

Buffybot, the company behind the cNFTcon conference, announced that they are opening up for Early Bird Ticket sales. 3 ticket tiers will be available, ranging from $40 to $600. The Diamond passes will only be available to Legacy Pass holders at first.

Big Pay Opens a Tattoo Parlor

Big pay is a popular Cardano content and founder of Rare Evo (Rare Bloom). Apparently, he is also a tattoo enthusiast as he just opened a tattoo shop in Florida where customers can not only pay in ADA, but also get an NFT of their tattoo.

Charles Opens a Health Clinic

Charles is opening up a new medical facility next month in Gillette, Wyoming. The clinic aims to provide healthcare to an underserved part of the country using non-traditional methods, focusing on research and a holistic approach. Unsurprisingly, the clinic will accept ADA and other cryptocurrencies as payments.

Charles's father and brother, who are both medical doctors, are the other driving forces behind this project. Charles had wanted to become a surgeon himself until his fascination with computers and mathematics steered him away from the family trade.

IOG Launches Essential Cardano Guide to the Ecosystem

The guide, created by the IOG Community & Ecosystem Team, highlights some of the most important builders in the space.

First Cardano Smart Contract Written in Python

A developer team called ImperatorLang announced that they have compiled and deployed the first smart contract in Eopsin/Python. This is significant as it lowers the barriers to entry into the Cardano ecosystem, something that continues to be criticized (see King David's Twitter thread below)

Project Updates

Fresh Mints

As always, plenty of NFTs were minted last week. Most notably, World Mobile Token minted 100 EarthNode tokens, each representing a WMT Earth Node Operator. Since launch, 6 of these NFTs have been sold on the secondary market for the average price of ₳110k.

TV Kills also sold out their 4.4k collection and traded for ₳320k when this is written the on the secondary market.

Other notable drops were WENBOY from Old Money and Fabricity, both of which are still minting.

Tavern Squad Continues Raids

Tavern Squad recently launched one of the most successful gamified staking experiences in the Cardano NFT space, Raids. As players continue to raid and earn tokens, they are now able to reach Depth 2 after conquering the Depth 1 boss.

Danketsu Releases the DankPaper

The most notable update is their Danketsu Missions (BETA), which will go live on the 29th. This will offer NFT holders a gamified staking experience, similar to what Tavern Squad recently introduced with their Raids. Missions will allow holders to earn $NINJAZ tokens.

Cornucopias Releases a Massive Development Update

For Cornucopias fans who want detailed insight into the development of their favorite metaverse, the latest announcement from the team will not disappoint.

SuperBull Announces Beta2 Showcase

SuperBull (formerly Hornnies) is a sports league platform where NFT holders can compete for rewards. After collecting feedback from select people in the space (including yours truly), they are ready to showcase the update to the world on January 19th, 10PM EST.

ORE ORE ORE Reaches New Highs

The OREMOB collection continues to break records as it approaches the all-time-high top 10 list in secondary market volume (#13th). Not only has the collection consistently topped the 24h, 7d, and 30d charts, but credible community members seem to be impressed with what the team is building.

Goombles Hype Continues

Goombles is an upcoming mobile game that will mint its NFTs on Cardano. They recently reached 10k followers on Twitter, a feat that few unminted projects accomplish. They also continue their gaming collaborations, now giving players of Cardano Warriors the opportunity to win Goombles prizes.

Ugly Bros Building Experiences & Community

The team released an exciting preview of the virtual space they are creating for their community. Not only are they building what appears to be an exciting Web3 experience, but they also built relationships with other blockchains via their most recent Twitter space, where almost 350 people tuned in.

OnBoard Onboards Another Talented Artist

OnBoard's mission is to bring more talented artists to the Cardano blockchain. In their latest tweet, they showcase the work of their next artist.

Chilled Kongs Look Ahead

Chilled Kongs has received some criticism for perhaps being too chill in their progress, but the team has recently announced their milestones for Q1 and Q2 of 2023. This led to a significant uptick in secondary market volume and floor price for the collection.

ROBOROBO Release Alpha Version

ROBOROBO might be a lesser-known project, but they have been around the Cardano NFT space for a long time now. In their most recent update, they announced the release of their game alpha. Perhaps yours truly (CardanoThor) will be the first to play it on stream this today.

Ancient Dragon Alliance is minting its main collection this week. They have previously minted 1,500 of their relics, which give additional benefits and WL spots. The team describes itself as a versatile NFT project that focuses on community engagement and providing utility tools.

Jellycubes

Jellycubes by the Block Investment Group is undoubtedly the most exclusive drop of the week. It will mostly be reserved for whitelisted members, mostly comprised of holders of their current collection. At a floor price north of ₳5k, getting a whitelist spot is not easy.

Market Update

It was an exceptionally strong start to the year for the Cardano NFT space. Volume is up 60% on the 30d time frame and has recorded over ₳1M for 15 days straight now. The increase might be partially explained by the cheaper ada price, but that is changing now as it moves in the right direction for the first time since October 2022.

Things seem to be calming down this week, with an 11% decrease on the 7-day time frame, but that might not last long with several popular drops hitting the blockchain later this week.

In the big picture, we are still in a bear market and collectors should consider the additional risks involved.
